Hi All
How much space can I expect to gain if I use a drop base air cleaner?
I want to use Edelbrock E-tec heads that recommend a #2716 manifold that has a note that says they will not fit under a stock vette hood.
I know from other forums here that the 2101 manifold will fit and the AB measurement difference between these two is only half an inch.
So I am hoping a drop base will give me enough hood clearance.

Vette(s): 1976 L48 4-spd, Mahogany Metalic exterior, Buckskin interior 350ci/350hp, 3rd owner, fiberglass spring, 255/50-16's Torq-Thrust II
Here is what I am running, 350HO vortec heads, RPM manifold, Speed Demon carb, Proform drop base air cleaner, 2-1/2 tall filter element which leaves about 3/8" hood clearance. Can't use the bow tie wing nut to hold the filter on. Need to go with a button head screw for low profile. I think Summit gives the drop info but later today I will get a measurement for you.

I got a measurement, the base drops 1"
This is the one I am using
Thanks for the info.
Sounds like this might work.
How do you like your vortec heads. I have read they provide good torque from 1500rpm on up but how are they from idle, (like off a stop light)?
Thanks again for the info and help.

Can't tell you yet how the heads perform. I am having the exhaust system installed to day so have not taken it out for a test run.
Let me know when you get a chance to test them out.
Hey does JAL still train their pilots there. I used to have to fly into Moses Lake and got caught up in the "pattern" behind a bunch of 747s.

I took the vette for its first short drive with the new motor. Boy was that fun
and the flow master 40's sound great. It now feels like a vette should in my opinion. Compared to my old L48 I feel like I did loose a little bottom end. Only notice when going up my steep driveway. But roll on the throttle when getting on to the freeway and does it pull
. I was going to put on the pair of sweet thunder 3" chamber mufflers I bought but was worried about ground clearance. So I had the exhaust shop install the 40 series Flow Masters. They really sound great.

JAL moved there flight training center last year to another airport. We still have Boeing doing test flights and frequently have military aircraft doing touch and go.
Can't wait to get some free time and take the vette for a drive. Been working way to many hours and it won't for at least a few more months.
