So there I was under the engine poking around (as you do)
and I discovered one of those braided earth straps
sitting caught up on an engine mount, completely free
in the breeze ! No doubt it has a home somewhere, and
I figure it must have been taken off by a previous owner
and dropped or forgotten about. And it has just stayed
there. So the magic question is where could it belong ?
Does anyone have a list of locations where the braided
earth straps should be ? It's about 8 inches long,
terminated on each end with a metal tag with quarter inch
or thereabouts hole in it. Hints please !

The strap should simply go from the engine to the frame. If you have room to look, you'll probably find a threaded hole in the frame somewhere within reach of the strap.
Where exactly is it still attatched? Or is it attatched anywhere?

Mine goes from the engine mount on the frame ( with bolted trough bolt +nut )  to the center of the engine in a threaded hole somewhere a bit beneath the plugs .( above back of starter motor )
And yes, with my ignition problems a time ago  i checked it a lot.... LOL

Did someone drop the cable that goes from the distributer shield to the valve cover bolt on the passenger side? It doesn't sound like the main ground cable that goes from the frame by the motor mount to the starter brace bolt. Can't think of any other braided cables there.   Mike

Awesome stuff !   Especially the piks !  There is no distributor shield on
my car, so I guess that counts that one out. Although that is exactly
what it looks like. Time to get under with the torch tomorrow...  It was
not connected at either end, just laying where it was with only sheer
good luck preventing it from having simply dropped onto the road.
Let you know...   and thanx heaps for the info everyone !
