!  Got a problem.  Put a 600 on my C3 and now I can't close the hood.  I have to find an air filter that's not as high as the original.  What works out there??  Anyone know???

Thanks!

Hey Mick,

a BB hood ? ( or LT1 as mine ? )

I'm not sure but it seems to me that i have a air-filter base plate somewhat modify't : there is welded on but has now a deep curving so it sits low on the carb , as if the air filter is a bit around the carb instead of full above.

Sorry , no offending, but with my problems i looked also at a Edelbrock carb in the shop and it looked to me a bit "cheap".That glossy aluminium alone perhaps seems to me a bit flashy. In this case i find the Holley more prof build.( no calculating that perhaps weaky power valve ) .

Also price was astonishing : 440 $ for the Edelbrock , as 1000 $ for a Holley ( double pumper ) .

Do you have the same difference in prices in the US ?

I was a bit disappointed by the quality of build , the more i have Edelbrock heads, pistons and manifold on my Harley. Those pieces are fine quality and work perfect ! ( my friends with stock can't keep me up ...   )

Good luck with your problem now. You can always lower the engine ......

You can get a drop base air cleaner. They come in different amounts of drop. Summit Racing and Jeg's carry them. A local speed shop may have them as well.

I've always known Edelbrock to be excellent carbs...easy to install and they hold their adjustments.

I have an edelbrock 780cfm, no emmisions equipment, it works great.  As for the aircleaner, I use a 1.5 inch open sided filter element and have no problems.  Mr Gasket makes a nice chrome one with a paper filter.  Of course I do have the BB/LT1 hood.  Good luck.

On my 69 I have a drop base 14 inch assembly using a 3 inch filter.  I also have an Edelbrock 600 cfm on top of and Edelbrock intake.  I do not have the original distributor cover on the motor.  I am using one from a 76, because I am running an HEI.  You may run into clearance problems with the original distributor cover, don't know??  Gotta run...

Good luck with your problem now. You can always lower the engine ......[/QUOTE] #1.  Mine is an L46, like your Lt1 hood.  What's a BB hood?  (no laughing!)

#2.  The Edlebrock carb is a better carb than the Jap Holley.  Mine was a double pumper too and your just gonna continue to have problems with the power valves.  They used to make Holley's in the U.S. and they were GREAT, but since Japan started building them they SUCK and that's the TRUTH!!  Every time ya turn a corner it's gonna dump on ya and your car's gonna act up.  The Edlebrock might look cheap but it's not and it's not built in Japan.  I also heard that the Demon Carb (I think that's the name - Jegs or Summit has it) is a great racing carb, but not good for economy, easy to tune, etc.

#3.  The Holley 650 I had was $500 and the Edlebrock 600 was $250.  Take the Holley off and use it as a anchor for your boat!

#4.  Yeah, I'll lower the engine.......put some caster's on the oil pan so it won't drag on the ground!!

HOHO Mick , alive and kicking ?

#1 a BB hood = Brigit Bardot hood. ( so with boops )

#2 mine Holley is sooooo old it has to be built in the US.So you are responsible. Ok, perhaps that flashy alu give me a wrong impression.

#3 price difference seems the same , only whe pay 2X... perhaps whe earn 2 x ... Anchor for the boat ? I have 2 x a 70 pounds anchor so i don't recall me hauling that carb out and in the car it whas something near it.....

#4 avoid construction sites ! trail it to race circuits ....

By the way , lowering the engine is not a problem  if you mount bigger wheels ...  and balloon tyres

#1  HILARIOUS!!  My hood is not like yours....ooppps, made a booboo.

#2  I heard it's very hard to get parts to rebuild your old Holley.  You could maybe get some from Joel or make them yourself.  I was talkin' about a "fishin' boat" if ya have one.  Not the monster sailboat, silly!!

#3  I'm sorry...... Want me to check into the cost of the Demon Carb (for racing) and ship it to ya??

#4  Not racing my "Baby."  She get's TLC so she won't bite me anymore!

#5  Nothin's wrong with my intake, so I don't want to buy the Edlelbrock manifold.  Places that I have called, say they don't carry an airfilter & cover to clear the hood. It's probably cuz I'm a Tom Boy and they want me to buy that Ederbrock intake!

Take a saw and cut a big hole in your hood, it worked for me. Also, switched from holley to edelbrock. Had a lot of problems with the holley's. Good Luck.

OK, but what is the main problem with Holleys ????? I have a old book on racing prep and they only wanted to discuss the Holley double pumper as THE racing carb... or was it sponsored????
