Try some Simple Green. I've found that to work very well for me.

For the really tough stuff, use plain old EasyOff oven cleaner. Caution, this is lye and is not good for chrome or other plated surfaces...or your skin. It will also strip the paint. For the more deleicate areas, Simple Green and a brush.

HEY THANKS FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS. MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS NOT REAL BAD, BUT COULD USE A LITTLE CLEANING. ONLY 56000 ON THE CLOCK, SO MOST OF THE ORGINAL PAINT IS STILL THERE. THANKS AGAIN.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
I made the mistake of using Gunk on my engine. I also used hot water. It took off a lot of the paint with the grease. It cleaned up really good though. On my new cars, I use Fantastic and warm water. My engine in the 3 year old Durango that I sold, was as clean as a new one. Don't get it on the body paint though, it might streak...
