The Vortec and or any other Aftermarket street Heads will not make any Clearance Problems. Most intack manifolds can be modified work with Vortecs. If You end up with Hood Clearance Problems most Manifolds can be machined down a bit but this needs to be done before installing it. Might Consider a Set of AFR 180cc Heads they will work with the manifold You have. Get rid of the Points and upgrade to a MSD Ignition. Best bet might be to Call Comp Cams back and ask them what Head, Manifold Carb Combo works good with the Cam You bought. Thousands of Combinations have allready been tried and they probably know better than anybody.
Suncountry, where did you get the air cleaner? Very nice looking! How much shorter is the demon carb compared to the quadrajet? I would really like to use the heads but stack up height looks to be an issue? Do you know how much taller the vortec heads will make the intake sit or is just the intake needs to be much taller? Either way I am interested in your air cleaner setup!
Sorry Rod I missed your post yesterday. I will get you more info when I get home tonight. I also have a spacer between the carb and manifold so the 2-ndary acc pump cleared the vacc fitting in the manifold. EB has dimensions you can use to compair the height of different manifolds. If your engine is still in the vette you can use clay balls to figure how much room you have between the carb and hood.

I completed a Vortec Head 64cc& Cam change this summer.
GM Vortec heads, Edlb intake, Crane 210/216 (.420/.454).
Needed the smaller head to replace the 76cc smog heads to up the CR to 9.1.
IMO just changing the intake & cam will not do much without higher CR & using anything over .460 lift will require valve spring & seal mods. JMO

The carb spacer I used was a 1/2" so the acc pump would clear the vacuum port fitting. The fitting was one from the early big block which has 2 ports on it. One was for the accessory and one for the power brakes.
Carb height from the base to the air cleaner mount is 3-1/4"
