The only way I see it could make a differance, were if the paint was thicker,or the paint had metal particles in it.
|headscratch| Or its porous........?

Paint it black. Its less likely to show dirt small oil leaks and grease marks. Plus it makes all the other dress up items stand out. I've seen a lot of newly built engines that after a year they develop a small oil leak usually at the valve cover gasket, then it collects road dirt or collects on the intake or down the side of block only to get baked on. Black will hide all of that, should it happen. Only downside is, it may make it hard to find the leak with out a tracer fluid and black light should you get a leak.

that is not a ringing endorsement.

and I have yet to see a reasonable explanation for this...

since the engine is not exposed to sunlight I dont think it has anything to do with the color.  but it could have something to do with the chemical composition of the pigment that makes paint black.

until someone comes up with a reasonable explanation and empirical evidence...  this doesnt pass the smell test.

I agree with Ben. The biggest attribute to consider in engine heat dissipation is the composition of the metals.

An intersting fact some of you steel chromed valve cover guys may not know is that, although they're pretty, they retain heat!! Evil%20Smile That's why you see a lot of the after market moving towards polished aluminim Thumbs%20Up
