When I did my 383 I went with an Eagle rotating assembly,Je Srp forged pistons with floaters, The cam was a Speed Pro hyd roller retro fit. "Can you say Expensive".If I used my head I would have used a later block. I used Edlbrock rpm cylinder heads. All arp fasteners. Just some highlights of what I used. I have never had it on a dyno.Dont know what the numbers are. But I can tell you it is a hand full in the vette. I could break the tires loose in all four gears 3.55. I ran it for a year with the 4 spd. This past year I went to another level a tremec 5 spd. What a ride. Oh... did I say Expensive. Just one note to you guys building your own. Keep a log of all your mfg and part numbers you may need them down that long road. Good luck with your build.

You can paint now or wait till assembled. I prefer to paint bare block. And I use por15 engine paint. It lasts longer than the rattle can paint you get at the auto store.

Hi Hank,

looked at your pics.  You definitely had a pretty good reason to rebuild !!!!  Were they any signs (like noise, vibrations, etc.) during the weeks before it broke ?  I would appreciate knowing it, so I can be vigilant and see it coming if it ever happens to my baby.

Good luck with your rebuild. Thanks !

Roger
