My baby is ready for another oil change. This time I want to clean out the old sludge, carbon, etc. I know they make additives you just pour in the crankcase for a few minutes, then drain and put new filter and oil in.
Anybody know of a good product that does this? If so, how good does it work?
Thanks
Larry

Thanks for the imput. Just regular kerosene that you can buy at a hardware store? Will this work for all types of cars?
Thanks

Yes, that's what I used. I would also drop the pan if you can to scrape it clean, as previously mentioned.

GUNK makes a product I used a few times... Its probably more expensive than kerosene but it was easier for me to buy and use.
Depending on how much dirt in your engine, you may want to perform the routine I did.... Drain oil and refill with 4 quarts of new oil and 1 qt of GUNK. Run engine for about 10 minutes. Drain and do same thing, i.e. 4 qt new oil and 1 gt GUNK. Run engine 10 minutes and drain oil again. Refill with 5 qt new oil. This time I run the engine about 100 miles and drained the oil again. Refilled with 5 qts new oil. This may seem to be overkill but I was having problems with noisy valves and wanted an easy way to fix it. Last year I ran another qt of GUNK and fresh oil then drained. I was surprised to see how clean the oil was
