Anyone have any tips for engine cleaning?  I have heard its pretty difficult on older engines.

I clean mine often..I use my trusty electric pressure washer with its nozzle on a pretty wide spray..so I don't destroy stuff..I will mix some dawn soap and water in a spray bottle and spray areas I want clean once the engine is warmed up...one trick that I found that helps me is keep the engine running ..if I hit something that makes the engine stumble at least I have a chance of revving the engine up and not soaking the spot that didn't like the water in the first place..and it helps me check for bad plug wires too..the key is not spraying to much water..that's why I don't use a hose..it just goes everywhere..and I can aim where I want it to clean..you would be supprised at how well dawn works mixed all by itself too..the worst case scenario is the car sits for a while until it dries off and then gets going.
