Vette(s): I have my FIRST VETTE it a 1974. L48(Engine Suffix CLC), ORIGINAL COLOR(Paint Code 74L), SADDLE LEATHER (Trim Code 416), AUTO, AC, PS, PB, PW, T/T Steering Wheel, GLASS T-Tops, MAP LIGHT all matching #'s Over all Fair shape always a work in progress!!!
I need help identifying my engine. The casting stamp is J45418736 / V0130CLC. Aslo how do you know is it is a chevy 350/400 or a corvette 350. Seeing how the location of the 1 wire is differant? thanks

The only help I can provide is that the third character is most likely an "S" and not a "5." Check again to be sure. The CLC suffix also indicates it's a base motor with AT and California emissions.
I'm sure other members, with much more knowledge than me, will chime in soon.

There is no real difference between a "Chev" engine and a "Corvette" engine. They used the same castings of the major parts for many models. I can't find the numbers you listed, but sometimes they are awfully hard to read. Maybe you can get casting numbers off the heads and intake.
Assuming you are referring to the location of the #1 wire on the distributor cap, that doesn't help you much. Your car should have a tach-drive distributor, which means it was changed when the engine was installed. It can be put in any of a number of directions and still work fine.
