Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

There are many factors involved.  But to start with look at compression.  Compression alone will make huge differences in an engine power output.  In 75 my L-48 has 8.5:1.  With nothing but a slight cam change and 9:1 the L-82 produced 40 hp more.  Crank up to about 10 or 10.5 and it's remarkable.  Of course then it has to breathe or it can do the job.  A set of alum head will make a huge difference again.  Of course you need to match the intake and exhaust at this point.

Pistons, heads, Cam, intake, exhaust, and fuel supply all need to match.  Take a look at Summit Racing and Jegs and you can see several crate engines that have what you are looking for fairly well covered.  Look at the specs for these and you will have a good idea. Or just duplicate Matts engine.

I'm not putting you off, and I think the learning is a great thing to do.  Keep it up.  You may be a foremost rebuilder someday.  The reason others have not given you specifics is simple.  It' s just too darn much work and time to do the research if we are not going to do the job.  I have spent a lot of time looking at my mild build alone.   But there are several good souces for engine builds.  I would look at these sources and the crate engine specs to get a good reference.  Hang in there Louis.  When I get mine done I will let you know what it did.

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.

Does your contest also require the drivetrain suggestions that need to back up what your engine expectation is? I've seen some very well built engines knock the snot of a stock TH350, trailing arms with high mileage, mis-matched rearend ratios and old u-joints......

Just a word to the wise....

Good luck

Vette(s): 1972 Coupe Anything, but Stock and more mods to come! SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.

Im doing engine info only.

Just so everyone knows it takes a lot of time and effort to plan out an engine from the ground up.  When actually get into it one change can impact the entire engine out come.

Not to give away details, but in my planning of what I will present I started off with what I thought were good heads and good flow numbers, but when I started looking at what I wanted to do I was way off target by around 60 cfm on head flow to make the most of the engine combination.

As far as figuring engine compression and other things there are lots of online and other software that can do this atomaticially.  I still prefer the old long hand way with a calcuator.  Don't trust all these programs.  It really isnt hard once you understand the basics.
