Well, the wife and I ( mainly I convinced her ) that we should take Blu for a ride to the yearly gear head get together with the car buddies over the weekend. She made it up to the party, but on the way back it started to cut out and buck all the way home every 5 or 10 minutes or so. She was scared to death we would not make it home LOL. Think it is a ignition problem. Everything is new - dist, wires, coil, engine harness, etc. Already had the original condensor fail in the new distributor, so I think I might try another one just because. No clues as to why it cuts out.....fast , slow bumpy road, up hills etc. Checked all connections inside and out of the distributor today.
The party was great...showed off Ol Blu to my club buddies...it's the first road trip so far, but priceless anyhow. The wife will never ride in Blu again...any help would be great.

Wow, Bruce I just had the same exact problem. Just last week. I hate to say it but your cam is bad. one of the lobes has probably worn out.
That is a lot of dismantling but That is exactly why it is missing on you priodically. I just listed this post last week. not the ignition. IM me I gotta go.

check something else simple first though..
have you checked your fuel filter ?
I do not believe that it is a fuel problem, not because EVERYTHING is new, but because is started out being extremely intermittent, barely noticable. It would just feel like you ran over something , then became longer after a while, but only for an instant. The car started and ran perfect today in the garage. This was the first time the car ran at 60 -65 mph for any long length of time.....about an hour, so everything was good and warm so to speak.
It actually bucked and popped coming up the driveway last night. Same thing happened last time the condensor failed in the distributor.

What year vette are we talking about? You said condensor, you might check the ground wire from the point plate to the distributor base, should be a short black wire. When the point plate moves, it may break the ground. Hope this helps.

I just thought of something easy to check. The wire coming from the coil to the points, may have a break at the points. I found that on House boats with Chevy motors in then.

We are talking about a 72 with original point system. The distributor is a complete new repo...so all the wires inside and out are new.
I plan on yanking out the thing tomorrow to see closer all of this stuff. Yes, it acts like a bad connection someplace...but so intermittent I may never know what it is.
I'll find it, just give me some time, as said by someone before, no C3 is going to get the better of me!!!

During one of my last rides of the summer, mine started acting the same way (wife was with me too - maybe that's what it was...no) and I discovered it was water in the gas. Put some drygas (mixed with a little mystery oil and Maxlead 2000) in the tank and went for a ride. Within the first few miles, it straightened right out and has been running better than ever since.
