Need help in determining the best method that works for cleaning 39 years of accumulated gunk from the bottom and bottom side of my engine. Any recommended products or methods that worked well for you is appreciated. > Oops almost forgot, it's winter up here, so need to do indoors.   SIXTYNINE2008-01-08 13:39:35

Gunk, Simple Green, and a pressure washer.  Wait until warmer weather.  Degreasing is messy, inside or outside.

This question just came up recently ENGINE CLEANING. You can click on the link to see some of the suggestions made at that time. Hopefully they will answer your questions. If they don't just give another shout out and we will try / try again..... Tuxblacray2008-01-08 14:58:59

As mentioned in the thread Tux referenced do the serious cleaning before you pull things apart.  When cleaning up "BIGBRRD"s engine over last winter in a heated garage I couldn't really finish the job until I could take it outside and hit it with a pressure washer (did that just before the deep freeze hit!).  Even then as the disassembly happened there were parts, nooks and crannies that needed some more scrubbing before the painting could begin.

Have fun...!!!

For me it was getting my first pressure washer.  Bought a Campbell Hausfeld
1300 psi @ 14 gpm.  Got it on sale for about $70.  I used gunk or any cheap parts house brand.  Even seen it on sale for $1 a can.  Worked real good.  I was kind of new to pressure washers, but it really blew the grease away,
and paint too.  And I got good and wet to boot!!!Wink

Wait until spring...do it outside.

Nothing is safe at my house from the pressure washer, love that thing! I cleaned the engine bay of mine up inside and it was messy! And the Gunk degreaser can be pretty strong inside as well.

I've used Engine Gunk and Orange something that I got at K-Mart.
Both did OK, but I liked the smell of the Orange a whole lot more.
