WackoCan someone tell me of a place that has the correct suffix code deffinitions?
This is the engine I.D., V0524cjk.  From two different sources I have gotten two diff. answers.  One says it's an LT-1 350 330hp the other says it's a 350 270hp.  Can someone tell me how to identify for sure the hp of my engine?

Seems it is Flint=V, may=05, 24= 24th and by
A) it is a 1971 350, tur 400, LT-1, 330hp 4-bbl.  All this is true accept the variable HP # I'm not sure of.

Bruce,

The NCRS Specifications Guide & Corvette Black Book both say that engine code suffix:

CJK = 350 CI  270 HP  Base motor w/ Rochester Q-Jet & Auto trans

Hope this helps,

Anthony

I concur with Anthony. My book indicates the same 270HP base engine.

O.K. That being said, does this mean that no matter what it has for heads the hp is 270 or would head numbers tell me a clearer story?

If the engine has been rebuilt using aftermarket performance parts the HP could be higher. It depends on many factors but the heads certainly are a key component. If you get those casting numbers post them here and someone here will decode them. If you don't know what's in the engine the only way I know to check for HP is on a dyno.

What numbers on the heads tell me something about the heads as far as compression and all that?

Bruce,

The casting & date numbers for your heads can only be seen with the valve covers off.

If the heads are original, there should be a casting number of 3973487 (only small block head for 1971) and below that should be a date code.  An example of a date code would be D231D=May   23 = 23rd day  1 = 1971.

You can get it, and other neat stuff directly from NCRS, or you can order it from some of the Corvette parts vendors.
