I do not have a numbers matching car. Any resources for finding out what engine I have from the engine stamp number?

Jim,

Here's a site that has most of the CVhevy engine codes.
Post your engine ID, there are a lot of guys who will be able to help you.

When you post, include the numbers stamped on the block, the casting numbers of the block, intake manifold, and heads if possible, and date codes if possible. Every bit of info helps.

Thanks, Ten15, tried the site but of course my ID is not listed I did find a web site that lists cast stamps. According to this site, my engine is a 350 between 69 and 80 with either 2 or 4 bolt. I know the block is not a 78 because under the blue paint it is orange. The engine was stamped twice. the first is C7F354987 and the second is V1113TX3 the casting number is 3970010. I think the heads are oringinal although I have not foun any numbers on them yet. the intake is an Edelbrock and the carb a Quadrajet. Looking at the engine stamp, I'm guessing the engine is a 1977. If anyone has any ideas I would apprciate the input.

Jim,
V = The Flint assembly plant, 11 13 is November 13 assembly date.
There should be no "3" after the "TX#" stamp, they were always letters, please take a second look.
As for the C7F354987, it is part of the VIN from the car that the engine was orignally in. I'm not sure how this is decoded.
On the driver's side rear of the block should be a raised oval section which would be the casting date of the block. It will give the date that the block was cast in a Julian format.
As for the heads, you will have to remove the valve covers to see the casting #'s & date codes.
Hope this helps,
Anthony
