I am about to install my 'new' engine back into my 76 Vette and am wondering can it be installed with the transmission attached (manual), it didn't come out that way but i am hoping it can go back in.

Does anyone have experience/advice they could give me.

Thanks

Gary

I think you can but the angle will be real steep. You will need alot of clearance under the car for the tail section. I did mine seperate from each other.

Clearance underneath should not be a problem, I have a four post lift in my garage and a very good engine hoist.

Try to borrow or rent an engine leveler.  It will allow you to change the angle of the engine and tranmission as they are lowered into the engine compartment.

You will probably have to remove the drivers side front tire and come in with the motor and trans, that way, good luck but it is do -able,rd

Steep angle, indeed! You can install the engine either way, with or without the trans. Just take yer time, and be careful of all of the crap that can get in the way, like wires, and cables.
If your car has the welded in crossmember for the trans, it's gonna be a pain to get the tail of the trans up in the opening, without something hitting on the front of the engine, but a little patience will help.

Gary,

Some friends & I put the engine w/ trans into my '68.  We did it on jackstands from the passenger side (tire off).  It should be a little easier (& safer) for you with a lift.

As long as your hoist can reach around or over the lift, you just need a little muscle to push up on the trans to get it over the crossmember as you lower the engine onto the mounts.

Good luck,

Anthony

Just do a Member Search and I am sure you will find some willing bodies that will look at this as a learning experience.
Good Luck.
