Have you tried Grainger's?

I use chain and a load leveler diagonally across the motor. I attach them at the head or using lifting loops that span 2 manifold to head bolts each. You can see this set up in the photo link in my signature.

We have a Grainger close to home. Well about 15 miles. I am always amazed at what I find there. Great selection of hoists.
#1 safety is first. #2 is it worth what could happen if something goes wrong. #3 lift from the heads. #4 use a load leveler, makes it so much easier to get it where you want it.

Vette(s): 1971 T-top. I just had car shipped from my parents house in florida where it has sat for over 12 years..It is going to be a long project!
Update: Well engine is now safely home in my garage where it probable will be for awhile. I used extra head holes to lift out of truck...the engine plate workes well for a manifold cover, I didnt want to ship with carb on!! Thanks to all. Now the next question is...see engine storage thread.
I have pulled many engines and use the plate.I have one with the 3 holes for getting center of gravity correct. I do use grade 8 bolts and make sure that i get as many theads as i can and make sure they are tight, not bottomed outincluding engines with aluminum manifold. Think about that same engine hanging by 4 3/8 bolts on an engine stand fully assembled.
