Greetings C3 vettes friends:
Hey, suggestions please. I have a 73 coupe with a stock L-82 engine. Auto with 3:55 rear axle ( or 3:50...can't remeember but it is the one stock with the L-82). Would like a little exta HP/low-end torque? Any suggestions on some mods that I can make that will not overtly change the "stock" look of the vehicle. For example, I do not want to replace the carb with a unit that would require a high rise hood. I have added hooker header and a more free flowing exhaust. Also would not be too excited about 4:10 gears... been there on a previous C3 and didn't enjoy revving at 3000+rpm at 60mph. Really, really enjoy the forum. Thank you.Cheers, Jim

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
When I wanted to add a little more pep to my 66, I went with the Vortec heads and a Edelbrock Performer intake. The only thing I didn't like about it was the appearance of the valve covers. You have to change valve cover to one that the bolts go through the center of the valve covers and everyone assumes the engine isn't original. I had 3:36 gears but I think your 3:55 are perfect.

Have the distributor recurved. That is what woke my L48 up the most before I spent lots more money on the rebuild.

Greetings:
That's a super suggestion! I have actually done this already and as you said it made a huge difference in the performance. Smoothed it out at high RPMs and made it seem faster.
Cheers, Jim
hey buddy,,souperup,,,,with a set of edelbrock performer heads, a good edelbrock carb,(no need to change the hood)a mild cam,and a 3-73 rear gear,,it wont set the local track on fire, but it will give you that ,,whoooa thrill when you gooose it,,rd

Install a set of heads with 64cc chambers. This will increase the compression ratio, which increases torque. Your current ones are probably 76cc. Install an edelbrock performer intake or equal. This one has a low enough profile and breaths well. You can use your Q-jet or install an Edelbrock 1406 carb. You can always install a larger cam designed for torque and update to electronic ignition. All these will increase HP and keep it mild instead of wild.

Vette(s): #1 -1969 Corvette Coupe Riverside Gold, black interior,MN,A/C,350/350,PS,PB,window cranks.
#2 -2000 C5, black/black, 6 sp, Bose system & lots of buttons.
Your QJet will work better with the premium gas on the market now because they are mixing it with Ethenol. The Edelbrock Carb does not take this mixture well. Been there, done that.
