To all C3'ers,
Can anyone tell me what the following number found on the right hand side of the engine means?

Thanks for your help. I am just trying to get some number sequences documented with their descriptions.

14 = day of month.
Flint engine, built July 14th.
CUT = Engine suffix number = 1975 Corvette L82/4spd, or 1978 L48/automatic.

Thanks so much for the explanation. I kinda thought that part it was a date month combo, but am surprised to know that it was also used in a 75 vette.
As you know, mine is a 78 L48 auto.......

The CUT suffix was used for the two different years, but they were two different engines, so...
It is rare that the same suffix # was used for two different spec'ed, engines, but it's not totally unheard of.

All-tho, the NCRS pocket spec book does list the available suffix numbers. That's not where my info came from, however...but you certainly couldn't go wrong by having one.

Yup I think that's the one Mark got at Carlisle that I looked at..I think it was a new version also..will get one soon!

Rich...I been doin this a loooong time. De-coding dates is fairly easy to remember, be they casting, or stamped dates. The engine suffix numbers are a little tougher, since they changed every year, and sometimes even during the year. If you figure all of the different engine options available for every year, it gets mind boggling. That's when a good ol' hard copy is nice to have. I've never looked here, but the suffix numbers may be listed here somewhere....I'll look and see. If not, then I might get a list working, and have Adam add it in the database. Then it would be easy for everyone to just click and see.
