Hello, yes it's me again
What is best to use to paint the engine? Is it long lasting? What kind of prep does the engine need? Will I be frowned upon if I don't use the original color? (that's the wife's question
) What would be the original color anyway? Vette is a 75.
Any and all tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks
John (& Deb

It really depends how far you want to go. Is the engine out of the car? If not, use the spray bomb engine paint sold in parts stores.
I went way overkill on mine and used a Sikkens single stage over sealer. Yes I went with the correct color because I'm trying to do a complete restoration.
Correct is a choice not an obligation. It's your car, paint it the color that you want. You won't get laughed at if you do something different.

To simply put I paintd my engine a few days ago. Go to pep boys they have a engine paint section by plasti-coat, and a few other brands. You also need to get painter's tape and teape up all holes etc..... then cut around them so the tape fits on, also before you tape use a can of brake cleaner and a rag to take an y excess oil and off the engine before you paint, and tape. None of it will coem out right. The brake cleaner is the only lube taht will take that stuff off and not leave a residue wich screws up your paint. and then spray and have fun!
Here is the engine paint pics I did: my fav is 32

If you use a spray can, whatever you do don't use the paint with ceramic in it. (I think it's made by Duplicolor). I bought a can at O'Reilly's, 1st coat went on fine, 2nd coat wrinkled. I contacted the supplier and they said you can't put on a 2nd coat!

GM parts has the correct orange and black paint in a rattle can and it is a very good paint. Applies easy and covers very well. Been using it for the past five years on my rebuilds and have been very happy.

Yes the engine is out of the car.
About 10 yrs ago I painted and engine with Dupont paint that was made for a car's exterior. I was told that it had some additive that would take the heat. I had to use a respirator when using applying it. It did not come in a spray can, I used a spray gun. I only got about 3 hours on the engine before my garage got broken into and the engine got stripped. But to this day it still looks good except for a few flakes around the exhaust ports on the heads. I think that was my fault for not cleaning the block well.
Has anyone heard of this type of paint? I'm sorry for the misleading question earlier.
thanks
