The engine is a 70-350/350 and is the original engine. I do like to wind it up now and again but is has about 120k miles on it.

It does not tap ar use oil. However, I am concerned about something on the bottom end coming apart since it has a lot of miles on it.

1. Should I be concerned?

2. What should I expect to pay for an excellent rebuild?

Thank you as always guys.

Bill

Well an ounce of prevention is said to be worth a pound of "something"

BUT honestly if the engine does not use oil  and you hear no "strange
sounds" I would keep my money in the bank.  And enjoy it until you break it...then be concerned...

Should you be concerned because the engine now has 120,000 miles on it... HELL NO ! ...

County Engines in Frederick will hit you about $3000 for a "solid"  rebuild...
Place in Hancock (forgot the name..I think Cresap) has a great rep for doing solid rebuilds...

With good maintance 120 is just a good start.  You could possibly see 200.  Probably not, but you could.

if your numbers match..  doing a good solid rebuild now can keep it that way..

your numbers wont match if you wait to throw a rod and damage your block

Thanks guys.

I think I will keep my foot out of it for now and plan on rebuilding in the next two or three years. I only put on a couple thousand miles per annum.

Bob,

Do you ever get down to the Jimmy Cone in Mount Airy on Saturday nights?

Great car hop.

it seems always a point of discussion to rebuild or not to rebuild. some people say do and others say don't.

i am in a same kind of position... rebuilding my corvette(body-off) and was wondering about what to do with engine.

after i bought the car i hardly have driven it..only about hmm all in all 40 miles maybe. engine runs smooth, even the mechanic ( a good one) at a corvette garage  mentioned how nicely the engine was running.  before i bought the car it hasn't been on the road for maybe 4-5 years.... from the bills that came with the car it looks like the engine had a major rebuild before (1994):new intake manifold, oilpump, timing chain, performer camshaft, rings, all gaskets etc....only nothing about the crankshaft

but i have no idea if the engine uses oil etc . How well(or bad) the previous engine rebuild was done ( owner did the job himself i think) . mileage on the car doesn't give a clue either.

maybe i should tosh a coin

There's a place in NJ that does  quality work. A solid rebuild goes for around $1,800. They arrange for pick-up & delivery. They have an excellent demo at http://www.promarengine.com

Thanks!

I may have to consider it for that kind of money.

My mother-in-law lives a little further south in North Brunswick.

I could make the delivery!

Bill, Let me know if you use them, I'm going to have them do my 454, but with upgrades to increase performance, over 100 HP is the goal. and will cost me more. If you do come up here drop me a line.
