Can any one tell me if I can remove the engine without the Th400 connected to it?

Yes, you can.  And it's probably easier if the car is close to the ground.  You need a bit more clearance under the car to pull them as a unit.

yes..  it is very easy with an automatic

sometimes it can be a little more difficult to get a stick lined up when you put the engine back in seperately

and ratchet wrenches make the job of removing those bell housing bolts quite a bit easier..

I'd say it's a lot easier, that way.(and safer!)

I just reinstalled my BB into the 72 this past weekend. I left the auto in the car.  Those trans to engine block bolts can be a bit challenging, but patience and a set of those ratcheting wrenches due ease the frustration.  I waited to install the motor mounts until I had the engine to Trans bolts all started and pulled down.  From engine stand to pushing the car back into the garage, 1 1/2 - 2 hrs.  ( Includes 20 minutes pizza & beer break)

Bob, I don't know if you saw the Horsepower TV show, Project Stinkray. The engine hoist they had was not long enough to come in from the front, so they had to take a wheel off and come in from the side, which may make it difficult for you to pull engine and trans together.

IS IT POSSILNBLE TO PULL THE MOTOR WITHOUT REMOVING THE RADIATOR AND CONDENSER? LEAVING THE TRANNY IN THE CAR.

Bob;

I had removed the radiator prior to removing the engine, just to be sure I didn't accidently due more damage than usual.  I had previously removed the a/c stuff for storage.  By eyeball, I think if the waterpump is removed from the engine, and the shroud is pulled, it would be possible to yank the engine without pulling the radiator.  I just chose to be safe rather than sorry ( or pissed).

I too had to pull the passenger front wheel and put the suspension on a jackstand so I could go in with the engine hoist to pull and re-install the engine.  The nose of a C3 is just too long, and even at the 1000lb position the hoist arm was too short.  I found that a bottle jack worked well under the front of the trans, allowing it to be adjusted up or down when reinstalling the engine.

A friend or 2 to assist in  reinstalling, plus some post operation beer makes it all worth while.

Have fun

If you can get the fan shroud off the rad then yes, but you will want to remove the water pump so you don't spear the rad with it. With my 73 I need to pull the rad to get the fan shroud out.
