Any hints or tricks to removing a big block( besides using an engine hoist, I already know that one)............I just seems like a pretty long reach from the front of the car to the middle of the engine. The transmission is already out.

I have done a lot of Fords and Pontiacs, but not a Corvette!

Thanks

I haven't done a big block, but it's the same approach as a small block. You need to go in from the side. Jack the car up and put the front on jack stands. take off the wheel of the side the hoist is on, and you'll have plenty of room. Removing the radiator and support help (jusst make sure to not leave the support out for a long time as the front end will sag a little). Also, use a load leveler on the hoist. Good luck!

An A-frame and chain hoist will also work quite well - I had my shop built with truss support just in case I wanted to use it to pull an engine.  Now we have done it twice in a year.

If you're using a cherry picker type hoist, make sure the car is high enough when going in from the side. The top of the cherry picker chasis can be 6" or more at the top and may hit some things when you're rolling it under the car.

In this case, I was actually able to do mine with the tier on....

I did mine just like Paul's pic but had the tire off and the vette on jack stands. To long of a reach to use the picker from the front.

Find a friend with a shop that has a lift and a beam support high enough to put a chain hoist to!

Thanks, Tim
