Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.
With a drop base air cleaner and a 2-2 1/2" element, you should be able to clear a factory hood. I had a performer RPM on my 79 with a 2" drop base.

I used Flowtech ceramic headers - no issues.
Cost - endless......kidding - not sure what costs you're questioning....overall?
More clean up and prep prior to rushing the new motor in....

Vette(s): 1979 L82 4 speed Scat 383 crank 190 cc Procomp Aluminum Heads 202 160 stainless valves GM Powder metal rods Speedpro H860CP Hypereutectic pistons 280 cam hydralic HEI Pro comp 1.6 roller rockers Mighty Demon 750 Sanderson CC1AP Hedders.
Clearance issues: got rid of the stock hood, still debating on which one to replace it with L-88, stinger etc...
Cost I got a pretty good deal on the engine and carb but I haggled and paid cash (we got a monster sales tax here) I also replaced/upgraded just about everything except the AC compressor.
Headers Sanderson silver ceramic CC1AP and had a clearance issue with the steering gearbox. Also the collector reducer has a pretty good 35 dg angle on it so it was a little tricky to get downpipes made up. Hindsight being what it is I should've went with Hooker sidepipes with the cost of headers and new exhaust.
Cost: If my engine was a little tamer I could have easily reused all my stock parts starter, fuel and water pump etc.. But all of mine was in pretty bad shape.
