Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.
The 1974 indication is not for Camaros but a 350 for full size police apps according to the information from Mr.Mako. In 1980, you could get the 305 in a full size or Camaro.
My guess on the T400 is that the police application came with a Turbo Hyrdromatic 400 trans.
My 2 cents.

The t400 means a turbohydromatic automatic transmission mated to a
350c.i. engine for a fullsize sedan application, possibly a
Caprice. GM had very a very small protion of the police market in 1974.
Chysler had the majority of the police interceptor market.

According to my well worn Copy of the "Green Book" ..
(the complete Chevy V8 Engine Code book from 1955 thru 1985)
The CMJ code was used in 1974 for passanger cars ... rated at 160 Hp
all automatics, all 4 barrels...and also used in Police Cars
The same code was used in 1975 and 1976 models rated at 145 Hp
with 2 barrels and dropped into Passenger Cars, Monte Carlos and Chevelles
The code also was used in 1980 (305's) rated at 155 Hp ...also
listed as a passenger car engine,...
Only codes used in 1974 Corvettes were
ckz cla clb clc cld clh clr cls cwm cwr cws or cwt
If your engine runs strong ..do you really care... ? lol
