Vette(s): 1970 T-Top350/350hp numbers matching 4 speed. It's a mess and 1970 Convertible 4 speed.
Well I have finally found a place to purchase a engine. Its Smeding and they have 2 engines that I am looking at. One is 330 HP with 430lbs of torque for 4,295. The other one is a 350 hp with 410lbs of torque for 3,695. So the 500.00 question is 20lbs of torque that much of a difference when driving for 500.00?

Depends on the kind of driving ya do!
Torque is for driving...horsepower is for bragging....
Is 20hp/20ft-lbs worth $500? For normal, daily driving, and a bit of fun on w-ends, NO.
If yer bracket-racing on weekends, then, yes...

Vette(s): 1982 Black, ZZ4, Hooker Side Pipes, 3.55 Rear, Rebuilt & upgraded 700R4, All new suspension, brakes, & new Charcoal interior.
I would put the $500 towards other goodies.

Go to Summitt racings web site, they have Edelbrock complete crate engines and chevy or merlin high hp engines, some carry 2 yr warranties, pretty much the same price, good luck

Vette(s): 74 mille miglia red 454 auto. Zora's favorite!
Have you considered a  Ramjet 350? It doesn't run much more than that and it'd be a LOT less touble and at least a 2 year warranty.

Even if the crate is a turnkey, you may need that much $ or more  for incidentals in the transplant procedure. If money's tight, 20 lbs. torque ain't all that much. Good luck. Motors and paint are about the most exciting events of all. aceinthehole2007-12-31 19:45:06

most importantly....   what rpm does it reach those peaks in HP and torque...

the peaks really don't mean as much as the curves

I would rather have an engine that has a good wide torque band with a lower peak than one that reaches a high peak in a narrow band or "sweet spot"

Well according to the numbers 350HP hits about 5000rpm and 4000rpm for the torque the 330hp hits about 4000 for the hp and 3500 for the torque.

not seeing a curve and only seeing the peaks...  id say the 330 hp is better as it has its peaks 500 rpm lower....
