Ben you were right on track.

I leaned out both idle mixture screws 1/4 turn and BINGO no more dieseling. I had it a little to rich.|hammer|

Thank you to each and everyone who posted. It is the collective participation that makes this board so valuable. |thumb|

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
I wish I had been on earlier

As a follow up, Here are the things that make a car run on or as we call it "diesel"

1. Too high of an idle speed. (idle solenoid cures this. So does proper adjustment)
2. Too much heat. (T-stat, radiator, anything, including EGR in some cases)
3. Timing advanced. (heats the plugs)
4. Carbon build up (hot spots in the cylinder)
5. Improper fuel mix (too rich)
6. Sticking choke
7. Spark plugs with too high of a heat range (heat again)

Notice that all come down to idle speed, fuel mix, or heat from something.

Just for reference.

Thanks Ken!

Great reference, surely a help to all and answers a few lingering questions in my mind.

yeah but since you checked idle, didnt change timing, and only changed carb settings.. it had to be fuel mix

you should try the steam cleaning trick in the thread http://www.c3vr.com/vrforums/message_go.asp?MID=41129#41160 to address possible hot spots as ken points out.
