Okay today is another 55 degree days so I pulled Tux out for a good cleaning. Waxed him up and lookin good. I thought heck its so nice I'll check that leaky collector out on the passinger side. CRAP! I pulled the bolts and the header flange drops off with the gasket $#@@@!. (the rolled lip that is supposed to be part of the header.) Okay been through this drill before, time for a new set of headers. Our little Auto Zone carries Hooker & Flowtech. I will check my buddies at the Speed Shop Monday for additional too. I know they have Heddman but you couldn't pay me to install them. They go on, off bend, on, off cut, on, off bend, on cuss, cuss some more and so on.
Any advice from y'all on headers that you have installed that fit and went on easily would be great? Tux is a no air model so really only the altenator bracket& the starter are potential issues.
I have not decided to go with a coated header or not so this is a non issue as well. Main thing is I want is to spend as little time on instllation as possible and not loose my religon in the process. Thanks in advance y'all I know you will give me some great input!Tuxblacray 2006-12-31 08:47:30

I had good luck with ceramic headers and pipes from Hooker for my A/C equipped '73. They looked great , sounded better and I really had no major issues with the install.
By the way, that one was some wierd shade of black, Tuxedo I think? Ever heard of it?????

Bought a set of ceramic coated FlowTechs for "BIGBRRD". Won't know for awhile how they'll sound or perform as the engine is still in the garage being cleaned up and probably won't get it back into the car until the end of January.
I can tell you that the true dual exhaust (with an X-pipe) and Delta-Flow 50s that were put on over a year ago sure do make it sound pretty nice. Get a little resonance (sp?) at certain RPMs but overall we're happy with the "rumble".

Alright Dave that will be quite enough. Y'all shouldn't be makin fun of Tux... He's had a bad day, or a good one since the crappy leak was found.
So far based on the feedback received I have the following:
Hooker Metallic Ceramic - $755.99
Hooker Super Comp Black - $511.99
FlowTech Metallic Ceramic - $325.99
FlowTech Steel - $157.99 (???)
I appreciate the info on ease of installation. I think I am going with a straight steel header cause I have a friend who has a powdercoating business. Depending what he is doing I can get that color done that day cheaper. Most common color is silver vane which would make a pretty cool header coating.

I just installed a set of Jet Hot coated Hookers. You should call Jet Hot directly. I got mine for $433.95 to the door. They are the 1 5/8" by 3". You should look them up on line. I looked at the invoice and they always put the closest distributor on top of the invoice. Don't call the distributor, call them directly.
I did the same with one of my other cars, got the quality and saved a couple to three hundred bucks.
Good luck, you know the drill, anyone you put on is a pain in the rear, so you might as well put the best for the money so you won't have to again, hopefully!
Oops, just saw Jet Hot's 800 number on top of file, 800-432-3379. Hope this helps

I have the Flowtech ceramic headers on the baby. Fit like a glove, no dimpling necessary, and with the spark plugs out, was able to slip em in from the bpttom of the car while up on juck stands!!

Paul I know this is a longshot but do you happen to know the part # for these (maybe as shown on the receipt)? Description I have for these are:
Flowtech - 31106FLT 90 day warrenty primary tube coil size 1.625x3 w/o air. modify stock exhaust to retain cat. conv. (not leagal for street use) installation requires a/c braket (pn# 10042FLT) $325.99
If these go on easy enough without my prescribed HEDDMAN HORROR scenario I will probally fit test them 1st and then have them powdercated in silver vane. Along with the collectors and clamps.
Gurtz, thanks for the Jet Hot info I appreciate that. Before I buy anything I will check them out as well. This isn't an impulse kinda thing and I have plenty of time. Tux is gonna get a few "other" tricks this winter and he was expecting to be up on jackstands for a few weeks anyway.
Unfortunitly there is a red C4 sitting next to him that is stealing his time.
Damn I wish Gordon Killibrew's hotline was free.....

Tux;
Catch Gordon at any show during the year (i.e. Eureka Springs) and he is for free. While he and his bride were eating ice cream with another couple, he answered a detailed question from a friend of mine. And the stories you get of his days on the line are priceless!
He is very approachable but VERY DRY! He has even been dead on on the several C-3 questions I have asked him, down to giving me the wire traces and colors to help me sort out a guage problem.
