i have a few question and thought easiest to put it in one topic:

-1) should i squirt a little oil in the sparkplugholes when starting my engine again after it hasn't run for more than a year and opening up to clean/check, changing oil& gaskets etc etc ( i remember from longg ago i had to do that with my motorbike after having taken the engine apart but no idea if necessary with this v8

-2) are there any disadvantages when putting thermo-wrap around my headers?

-3) when i was about to install the waterpump again i noticed a crack on one of the bolt holes of the pump. my first thought was  easy thing i will weld it.. but since it is cast iron i gave up on that idea... to my idea the bolt will hold the pump tight even if crack get worse but since  i don't have any experience with these kind of cracks.. does this require a new waterpump ?

thanks

1) It would be a good idea to squirt a little oil in each spark plug hole. It may not need it, but it's not a bad idea at all once the car has sat for that long.

2) I honestly don't have the answer for that...I've heard yes and no on wrapping headers, especially if they're ceramic coated or something similar. Give header manufacturers (or Summit Racing or Jeg's techs) the question.

3) You already have the water pump off...I'd replace it. Why take chances? It's easier to do now than having to replace it on the side of the road.

My buddy that has a muffler shop advised against puttin wrap on exhaust systems at all. He has seen more rusted pipes with wrap than not. A better choice would be new insulation in the car, and some guys are running fans to exit the hot air out the side vents.

Replace the pump. So much crap is bolted on top of these mounts, I'd be afraid something else would crack and fly off at 70 MPH some point down the road.

When I tore my engine down, brackets were cracked and needed to be replaced....especially ones for the air conditioner compressor..

Needless to say I would use new bolts too....I used the old ones, but took them back out after the threads leaked antifreeze from the water jackets....

The pump needs to be replaced, no question. Not worth a failure down the road. The crack can be welded, no problem, but w/pumps aren't that expensive, so...unless it's an irreplacable, dated pump....
Header wrap is no good for our cars(or any others, in my o). You can damage the engine if they get too hot.
Squert some erl in the holes, it won't hurt a thing, unless you put too much. Then turn the engine over by hand a few times to distribute the erl a little.

Art,

I have had header wrap on my full length Hooker headers for 2-1/2 years and 10,000 miles with no problems, other than the fact they are butt-ugly compared to Jet-Hot ceramic coated jobs. They sure help keep the underhood temps down. Those full length tubes can radiate a lot of heat, especially within less than an inch away from plastic underhood stuff. I'll admit 2-1/2 years is not a long time, but my engine does not appear to suffer from any ill effects. It runs @ under 180 in hot summer weather.

Joel's ride is way too pretty for wrapped headers.

My 2 cents.....

Dave
