gas line(s) replacement

Looking to replace the gas line from the tank to the carb. I've heard of multiple lines, would all have to be replaced, or just supply line? Is there anything wrong with using rubber all the way? Thanks!

First neoprene is for fuel line, NOT rubber. The rubber will be ruined by fuel. It will leak and clog fuel parts with goo.
Second, neoprene is fine for short distances. Over long distances it can collapse, or droop and get damaged while driving.
There is no need to replace any steel line unless it is plugged, whole or partly, or is rusty or leaking. Chances are if the supply line is bad, so is the return line, and maybe the cannister vent line. Check them all. If it's just the particles in the line, flush the line and leave it there.

I agree. If you have to replace the lines, the small one is not too bad but the supply line can be a bear to get over/through the kickup. You may end up splicing it near there. Go to a hydraulic shop and get a 3/8 steel line splice. I think Aeroquip calls it "versiflare".

Steel line can also be splices with a compression fitting from any auto parts store. Not as strong, but more than you need for the pressure/vacuum in those lines.

Talked with someone today that said the shavings I'm finding in the filter could emanate from the sending unit/filler tube. I took a flash light to it, and it's very rough with rust like material. Do you find this in the steel lines as well, or do they hold up better than the sending unit? I hear chevy had a lot of problems with similar years of filler tubes.
