After I take my '79 out, when I bring it back, and park it in the garage, my garage quickly smells of gas.
Is this normal?
I never really noticed it before the past few times I've taken it out.
Thanks!

Take a peek at Gas Smell in this forum (there may be more) for some info. I don't remember seeing any on the topic in the C3 Fuel, Emission Control, and Exhaust Systems forum.

I have a 79 and i dont get any gas smell after i drive it and put it in the garage. Have you checked for any leaks in the fuel line or around the carb. Let us know if you find out the problem was..

Ya know, I'm starting to find I'm a lot less handy on engines than I thought. Interior I can handle, the engine is mystery to me... especially carbs. What is the float? What does it look like? How would I know if it was stuck? How can I un-stick it if it is stuck?
It seems to run ok otherwise. My mechanic recently adjusted the carb. Should I take it back to him, telling him its been that way since I got it back?

Yes definately take it back to him. The float is inside of the carb, you can't see it. If it runs OK then the float isn't stuck. It regulates how much gas is in "reserve" inside of the carb.
