Topic: Getting ready for a new engine
in Forum: C3 Engines
Ok - my schedule has gone from insane to just freakin busy. I have a new engine being delievered later next month to replace the dead 400 small block. It's a 350, purchased from enginefactory.com. It's a full engine, tuned and everything, I just provide accessories. I'm having them put on a flywheel for the muncie 4-speed and also a starter. I just provide the accessories. Can I use the alternator and power steering brackets from the 400? I'm going to have the transmission checked out (been saying that for a while, but I mean it this time!) I'm also going to have the driveshaft balanced and u-joints replaced. I'm going to get the radiator pressure tested (it's aluminum, don't want to replace if I don't have to). I don't think the engine builder provides the throwout bearing. Do I need anything else? Will the bell housing work? Any other tips?
I purchased a new radiator shroud seal kit and a new set of vacuum hoses. I'm getting ready to clean the engine bay and then put the new hoses in. Any cleaning advice? Thanks a bunch!

The engine supplier will most likey not give you a t.o.b. Go with a new clutch assy, and the tob will be included.
Take your time on the cleaning, and be carefull of some of the cleaning chemicals, as they can damage the paint.

I found a bottle of a stronger adult beverage works better... with beer you spend more time in the bathroom, not only in usage but in washing your hands before usage that you dont get anything done.

Certainly new clutch, pressure plate, throw out and pilot bearings. Find out what flywheel they put on it so you can get the right size clutch plate. The labor to put new in later is dwarfed by the cost of new now.

Thanks Jack - another question was going to be clutch size. I'll get the info from the builder.
Everyone else - thanks for the tips! I'll take pictures as I go along.
