Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
I have a little project going to try to give the engine a bit of a shine and have 2 main questions:

1.  Is there a product any of you use (or have heard others using) to give under hood items a nice shine and keep that shine going (with regular attention, of course)?  I didn't know if any of the products I use on the outside would work well under the hood (sadly, I haven't spent too much time working there over the years).  Didn't know if regular waxes and polishes would stand up to the heat.

2.  How to give and keep a non-rust look to exhaust manifolds - I know ebo and others have talked about Caylx or other products.  I had spoken to some folks about possibly bead blasting or other techniques to clean them up, but didn't know the best method to keep them looking good after a process like that (or if it's even neccessary).

Thanks!

for the chrome and general "cleaning" I use windex and paper towels or a rag ... works just fine and many have commented on how well the engine bay looks.

exhaust manifolds - no clue.

good luck

I also use Windex for cleaning and also use Armorall to shine things up a bit. If you have a lot of grease then you need to use a engine cleaner or some kind of de-greaser first.
Have fun!

Wal Mart has this purple bottle stuff may be made by Castrol? That does it all, full strenght for grease, dillute for gereral cleaning.
Trust me the Caylx manifold dressing is the bomb.....too easy...plastic glove and rub on with finger tip over rust and all. Looks brand new.
Those armorall cleaner wipes in the jug work great also.
And band aids......lots of band aids.......Ouch

How much Caylx do I need to do both manifold sides?  Looks like it comes in 3 oz jars

It goes a long ways, one jar will last you your next few vettes for sure.

Caylx is great stuff. I put it on with a toothbrush. Did the master cylinder too. Looks great and as Ebo says, last forever.
