Hey guys,

The smallbock 350 came stock witht he 6 & 3/4" H-Balancer. So that is what I got. so far.... I hit it in, and now it sopped moving. its about a 1/2" from the stretch. Question is: Is this because its a double roller? THe engine builder installed a double roller. If you need to see what I'm talking about, here is the pic:

What do you mean, when you say you hit it in?did you make sure that the woodruff key was in the slot in the crankshaft correctly and the slot was lined up in the balancer? You shouldn't BEAT IT ON.Get a harmonic balancer puller and take it back off,you might have paint or rust on the crankshaft where the balancer slides on ,once you get the balancer off, take some fine sandpaper and clean up the shaft, dont go overboard.just clean it up.make sure the woodruff key isnt buggered up,if everythings O.K.,put a light coat of oil on the shaft and inside of the balancer, and try it again,be careful .the balancer has to go on all the way because, you have to bolt on your bottom pully to the front of it to drive your belts, and they have to line up.the bouble roller timing chain shouldn't make a difference,if it was too wide ,the timing chain cover wouldn't fit on.let me know what you find out and get back with me,O.K.  Ron

Never bang or hammer it on. There is a tool for putting it on. You will/could mess up the rear barring.

Actually that looks correct.  Double roller will affect how far the balancer sets out from the engine.  I agree it should not be banged on.  You should use an installer.  When your putting it on with an installer the crank will start to turn when it is fully seated.

If you want to double check that it is installed all the way you can pull it back off.  Then you can use a wire or straight edge to measure fromt the face of the crankshaft timing gear out to the front face of the tiiming cover.  Holding that measurement you can now use it to gauge how far the balancer hub will slide onto the crank and approximately how much the balancer hub will be away from the front timing cover.

Remember the timing cover seal rides against the shaft on the balancer and that is what create the seal, not the back side of the balancer.

Also I hope you remembered to rub some grease on the back side of the seal and if its going to be a while before you start the engine I would use some grease of the inside of the hub and outside of the hub that rides against the seal.  This will prevent burnout on intial start up.
