help,, ive not done any work on this baby so its all new to me,ok as i stated yesterday I blew out a header pipe,,the headers on this car (its a 350, edelbrock rpm heads, 4 spd,ac,) seem to be shorter than regular headers, my clutch rod does not go thru my header tubes,I do not know what brand headers I have as they are wrapped in some sort of heat wrap.I also have about one half of the bolts holding the headers to the head, that have some sort of retaining clip on them .Do they have an allen head set screw up inside them? if so how do you get them out,,all I have done so far is to wet them good with penetrating oil,, can any one I.D. these pipes or bolts,,also ive got lots of cold bud light if anyone has some extra time and wants to work on some headers. Rick, can you post a pic of the bolts in question? It sounds like they may simply have a slot in the bolt-head, with an e-clip retainer. This keeps the bolts from loosening in use. They normally have a hex head on them, but some may have an Allen-head bolt for some locations. Without actually seeing what you have, it's hard to say.
Are you just trying to get them off to replace the gaskets?

It sounds like he is trying to change the headers as well. He stated that he had blown a hole in one of the primary tubes on one of the headers. The bolts sound like the type that Joel mentioned with the locking clip.
thanks for the input, I got the old headers off,,not too bad, just a lotta cussing, next question, As I am about to order a new set, does anyone have any insight as to the best ones to get for the money,,In the summitt catalog they list hooker at 375.oo and headman at 145.oo. The both seem to be made from 14 guage metal,, so why the big cost differance?..I also need to replace a chambered exhaust system at this time,,Who are the best companies to order from? Thanks rd

Stay away from the Heddman stuff. IMO..not very good quality(long term), even at the low price. Search around here on the forums...there have been several threads on this in the past, I think. A lot of guys have headers of some sort, so the info should be good.

I wouldn`t order the hookers from Summitt if your going to get ceramic coated ones.the quality of the finish sucks. I went through 2 sets in 3 months because they rusted. I finally re-ordered from JET-HOt Coatings. the finish looks better but i cant determine how the will hold up as i have not installed on the car yet
by the way. it cost me an extra $300.00 to get the same headers from jet -hot as from Summit
