Picking up a kit to re-seal and put bearings in my blower. Has anyone done this before or is it something that needs to go to a machine shop ?
Also while I am at it I am taking off my heads to have checked out. The car had been sitting for a long time and I know the seals are probably in need of replacement.
Can anyone recommend a shop near fort lauderdale that won't rip me off and does anyone know what it should cost dollar wise to have this done.
Thanks

On a B & M blower , the teflon seals were a do it your self job. they slid into place.

Dont know about your make, or the bearings

Vette(s): 1972 coupe/350 cid/mild cam/4 spd/20 ft. paint (looks perfect from 20 ft.), but it sure runs nice.

Might want to try R & J racing engines (near Oakland Park).......never used them myself but come highly recommended by Art's Corvettes and a few others. Good luck.

Scott, In MHO, the blower work should be left to a professional who knows how to clerance them and get them to turn with out the lobes rubbing. I've done my fair share, both on hot rods and Detroit Diesels, and you need long feeler strip gauges and a feel for the clerance on the rotor lobes and ends. The clerance, also refured to as timing the blower rotors is adjusted by a shim pack in the gear case on the front. Years ago I used ta be ASE certified heavy duty truck master, passed all the ASE certification tests on the first try, wonders never cease.

OK , pulled the heads off yesterday. They are dirty and the valves are full of carbon buildup, also I beleive the seals are probably worn as well. My question is, Dollar wise $$ does it make more sense to rebuild these heads, or to find heads that have already been done and are ready to just bolt on ?
As well I am thinking cam ??. Can I tell what my cam duration is if I remove it and check model # ?. And how do I know how large I can go without compromising the valves ?
Sorry for all the questions, Have not gotten this involved in a motor since I was in High School. Long time ago !!

Vette(s): 1972 Coupe Anything, but Stock and more mods to come! SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.

I would just use the heads you have.  Take them to a shop and they will clean and mag them and redo all the important items.  That is unless you plan to upgrade to aftermarket heads.

The blower can be done yourself, just make sure to get the shims back in the correct locations so not to throw off the timing.

Cam, take a look in some of the mfg catalogs, they make specific cams for supercharged engines.  Most of the time the lobe sep is 112 to 114 which is also ideal for EFI engines as well.

Thanks,
Actually found a guy locally that is going to do the heads for under 200.00 complete. He said he could also throw in the bearings and seals, in the blower, not a big deal.
Found out that whoever rebuilt the engine prior had used the wrong head gaskets and was blocking some of the water jacket holes, unbeleiveable, I am surprised I did not over heat every time I drove it. Apparently there are 2 head versions for the 427, one has different water locations and must use a special head gasket.
