Engine 350 no smog edlebrock carb, performer manifold, headers rest I beleive is stock, 124,000 possibly on engine. idle smooth runs good. no smoke except when first started after sitting.  pcv on passenger side of engine hooked to front pcv hookup on carb, driver side vlave cover oil cap and other hole with filter cap.
problem at around 70 MPH pressure is blowing the pcv valve or the dip stick up and oil getting on headers, also noticed oil pressure was 60 pounds wich is normaly at 40.
could this be real bad blowby press (engine overhaul) or intake manifold problem any suggestions?
Hopefully I can get fixed for issaqua this weekend

Bob, check to make sure the PCV valve is clean, and that the valve inside will "rattle" when you shake it. A valve that is gummed up, or otherwise restricted will cause the crankcase pressures to not be relieved. Also make sure that there is some way for fresh air to get into the engine, so the PCV valve can work. Check the "filter cap", and be sure it is clean. Make sure that there is a good vacuum source for the PCV valve, too. The carb fitting may be gummed up, or restricted, and not allowing full vac. to the PCV.
If the PCV valve is clean, and it has a breather of some sort that is clean, but there is still enough crankcase pressure to blow the dipstick up, or the PCV valve out of the valve cover, you may be looking at a rebuild soon...

I know the PCV is good, I will ck the vacum , would one of the breather type caps with a filter type stuff inside or the air cleaner type caps for the passanger side valve cover restric air into valve cover for the PCV system to not work properly
I quess the question would be what is the proper way to vent or hook up the hole in the Driver side vlave cover with the oil fill cap at the other end and PCV hooked up to hole in passenger side valve cover?

there is no right or wrong side to put the PCV or air intake.  you can place pcv on either side but the intake needs to be on the opposite and should also be on the opposite end.  ie if the PCV is on the drivers front the intake cap should be on the rear pass side.

defiinitely check the vacuum.  and if you have an electric vac pump to use for testing (they have alot of uses) you can pull a vacuum on PCV and you should be able to feel a flow into the inlet cap.

have you run a compression test?

Just to give an update afterthe swapped drove the car pretty hard nothing popped up, but noticed oil up front which is blown back by the fan. so the oil hit the fan HA ha.
So I am going with the engine swapp and will rebuild this one.
Compression was no 1 180 2 180 3 200 4 180 5 185 6 180 7 180 8 180.
all the plugs looked the same clean with carbon build up no oil foweled.

all PCV valves are not created equal, just cause it fits in the grommet doesn't mean its the correct one, make sure its the right application, if it worked for years the problem just started odds are its not the valve, compression looks good, what kind of oil up front, you might have pushed oil out of the dampner seal, PS oil?

The PCV was new It is supposed to be for a 77 vette, It is engine oil. I cant tell where the oil was coming from the fan blows it all over. I have swapped out engines and will be rebuilding this one. Does anybody have any ideas of what to look for now that the engine is out. If I can determine what it was it may help someone later.

As you know the most common problem is a clogged crankcase ventilation system, maybe a leaky or blow head gasket  into the lifter galley,  weak or broken compression piston rings, cracked piston, leaky intake valves, a compression test is ok for something overt, the best way to check was a leak down test, if the engine is still together you might still be able to get some kind of idea by doing one anyway even if the engine is out, but to be accurate it should be at operating temp, the smoke at start up was most likey worn valve guides or seals.  anips2009-08-21 13:35:30
