Hey, all you '80 owners. I need someone to PLEASE send me a pic of your alternator bracket.
We were mounting the new hood on after paint and the top bracket is rubbing. It was also rubbing the underside of the old hood as well.
I have the rear defroster, which means I have the 70 amp alternator.
I saw a billet bracket for low profile hoods that has the swing arm under the alternator. If anyone has used that, I would like to hear about it as well.
It's $130 and I don't want to spend it if I don't have to.
My lower bracket mounts to the head and the upper swing bar mounts onto the bracket bolt by the water pump. It is rubbing where the arm crowns and only leaves about a 1/4" rub spot however, when you try to push the hood down to latch, it bows the hood on the drivers side.
ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance!

If you use a longer belt, will it swing down any more, and be lower?

Joel,
We thought the same thing and tried it. It did not chage the angle at all. We did see a bracket that attaches to the water pump instead of the head but are not sure what model it fits. We considered grinding down the bracket but were concerned with compromising the integrity of the bracket and it did not look like it would be enough anyway.

the way to change where alt sits is to get one with the mounting bolt
in different position. some go by clock as in 9, 12, and 3. if i
remember from my car if you have a 12 alt mounted try a 3 position alt
and the alt will move out to the far end of adjustment bracket with the
same belt. what i don't understand is the difference between hoods. did
this fit this way originally or is the new hood and different design?

Both hoods have the same problem, it just showed up on the fresh paint more than on the old nasty hood.
We pulled the bolt all the way to the end of the bracket, but it still rubbed.
So, are you saying that different alternators rather than having the upper and lower bolts 180 degrees off from each other (parallel) have bolt holes at 90 and 270 degrees as well?
Where would I find one of these and could it be found in a 70 amp?

The bottom of the upper mount in the pic above appears to be mounted to the water pump. Mine is to a bolt hole in the head. The bottom mount has two bolts in the head at the base of the head and the upper bracket is bolted into an upper hole in the head.
I'll take a look tonight and see what would happen if we moved it to the water pump.
Thanks,

Thanks,
I have the March Billet Alternator bracket on my car now. If you'd like I'll take a pic tongiht and post it here so you can see it. I like it LOTS more than that ugly stamped piece of metal.
