I need to order parts so I can put my new engine in on Sunday, but there is a part that was broken on my thermostat housing, and I don't know what the hell it was.
Please help me identify it!
According to my shop manual it is either a "EFE TVS Switch" or a "TR SPK TVS Switch" And according to Ecklers parts list, there was no "SPK Switch" for the '79.
The unidentifiable missing piece is the one on the left (obviously)

Still the one on the left.

Once again, the one on the left.
(I know, the one on the right is acutally broken too, but I know what that one is!
It's the EGR Vac Control Switch.)

Thanks!

As I recall there is/was a blue colored fitting there that had 2 rubber lines coming off it. If memory servers me right they went to a couple of vacum operated cansiter like units. If you need more, let me know and I'll go open the hood. Snowing pretty good here right now so I'm holding back going out to the barn to look. Swampy

Swampy,
If you could strap the snowshoes on and take a look, I'd appreciate it!
Even the Chevy dealer had trouble figuring out what the hell it is supposed to be.
Thanks!

Hi Adam....Just went out there. Looking at it from the passenger side towards the front. The piece on mine at the right goes like this, The top tube off that fitting feeds into a connection up under the front of the air cleaner, very short hose about 4 inches long, then next one down feeds into the valve over the right manifold. The fitting further to the left is there but goes no where. I started it, put fingers all over it and its not pulling any vacum or anything so may just be used to block it off and goes nowhere and is just used to block off that opening. At least mind don't go anywhere. My Hayes book here only show the thermostat cover with none of these connections but may be showing the older model as it covers form 68 thru 82.
I just did this and its dark out so did it with flash light. If you need to know exactly what its tied to if you like I'll go back out tomorrow and take a picture of it if need be to show you exactly....I'll remove the air clearner also.....

Swampy,
Thanks for the help!
A picture would be perfect!
I'm guessing you didn't feel any vaccum because the switch hadn't opened yet.
Take a look at this picture, and see how it compares to your set-up:
(the red arrow points to a switch that is in-tact. the green arrow is pointing to the place where this other switch was apparently broken off at the base!)

Ok, thats a good picture of it....The Red arrow is the one thats hooked up on mine. The green arrow one is the one that is there but there is nothing attached to it at all.....I started it, both the ends where a vacum hose would go are are not pulling any air. I let it get warm and still but I'll check it again tomorrow....It would seem if they were open vacum lines it would run lousy and it runs fine...Flat idle, no twitching, just nice and smooth. but I'll check it again in the am when I can see...I'll jump on it first thing as we have more snow or rain on the way. I'll take a picture like you did......
Also I don't see any spare vacum lines laying around there, so it appears it was also blank on that one.......

Swampy,
I'll look for that picture of your tomorrow for sure!
You're right about there not being any spare vacuum lines laying around, but I'm guessing that someone just by-passed whatever used to be there. I have the factory diagram of the lines, I'll probably go by that to get it back to where it should be!

Meantime I just asked another forum I frequent about it and see what they come up with till I get out there in the am. I want to pull the air cleaner on this one anyhow as its been out in my shed and the mice or chipmunks might have gone in the air tunnels....Just found a big squirels next on top of my 454 on my RV. Good thing I check it before running off in it. IF that don't get it, then I'll go to my buddys vet shop and get and better answer.

Hi Adam. Got out there this am before more snow came in and took these pictures for you to show you where they go on mine. I left them big for better detail so feel free to delete them if they are taking up to much room. I'll send them in to mailings. As you can see one set go to the EGR and one to bottom of carb, but the others go not where and are not pulling vacum either when hot or cold as I let it get hot just to check it....appear to just be a dummy even though it has EGR marked on it, the black one at both outlets.
So lokking it this one I would say what ever blocks it off would work fine as long as you have the outlets for the 2 vacum lines you need. this shows the lines going back to the EGR and the carb. This is also an LM1 BLOCK that the guy just put the stuff back on it to sell it, no paint no nothing. So this one will get pulled apart, chromed out etc before it goes out. Engine runs sweet, just looks rough.
