Hey guys I have been working these past couple of days on a new High Performance engine for under 9K.... YOu guys may make fun of me for using BIG brand names, but hey, I also stick to flashy weel-known names.... Hhere is the list, with summit part numbers:

Well a few things and these are things you will learn with experience.

That cam while it would work with the engine compression is not very street friendly.  4000-7000 rpm range.

Carburetor is way too big as is the intake.  While they could be made to work you would be so dead on the bottom end you would be frustraited.  There is such a thing as too much air flow.  What happens is you loose the velocity of the air through the engine.

Also You would need a different distributor as the ready to run does not require a 7al.  I would stick to a mechanical advance distributor with a magnetic pickup.  The 7al is a good unit, but over kill for the street. Stick with a 6al or a digital 6.

The 1.7 ratio rockers would not be my first choice.  I would pick a cam and let it do the job instead of using a high lift rocker arm to compensate for a smaller cam.  1.6 is about as large as I would go.  There is such a thing as coil bind on the cylinder head springs.  This where you have to much lift on the cam/lifter combination that you compress the spring so far it binds up.  This can cause major distruction in so many ways I won't even begin to describe each one.

Gaskets - Don't rely on a gasket kit.  You will want to pick out some good MLS head gaskets, performance intake gaskets, oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets.  The gaskets in those kits are made for basic rebuilds.  Fel Pro makes what they call race kits.  These are the basic pieces minus the head gaskets, intake gaskets, and oil pan gaskets so you can get the good stuff.

Lastly you left out a few things on your list at a quick glance

Lifters, Connection Rods, Push Rods, Main Bearings, Rod Bearings, Oil Pump Pickup, Harmonic Balancer, Flex Plate/Fly Wheel, headers, and all your new engine bolts.

Just so you know i have just about finished my little engine build project.  I have to double check everything on the list, but I have everything included, except for pulleys which I'm not going to include.  I even included headers and right now the total bill is $9038 and the final CID is 421.  This would be a kick butt solid roller street engine making 10.6 compression operating in the 1800 to 6200 rpm range have some really nice parts and my preliminary dyno info shows peak numbers at 557HP, 553 lb ft.  Average numbers are  397 HP and 517 lb ft.  I always prefer to build engines that make better torque numbers because torque is what moves you down the road very quickly.  FYI this engine should operate nicely on 91 ontane this its aluminum heads.

Well I think I'm done.  I takes a while to put together an engine combination that is balanced.  In this case trying to keep the cost down, but still have good parts that would be long lived.  I'm sure I left something off the list, but you never catch those things until you start to do a build.  The costs associated are for parts only.  There are no machining costs, or materials included (ie Sealers, Assembly Lubes, Etc.)  It also assumes you have access to the correct tools to do this assembly.  Also realize these dyno numbers are simulated, but these software programs tend to be with in 3 to 5% in either direction of posted numbers from what I have seen.

Nope its the port in Okinawa Jp. Have been to  Frankfurt though had a lovely area in the shade of "red" as I recall. Sorry to hear you got hit I was lucky enought to come out with no scratches luck of the draw I guess. Hope you doing OK and if Im ever in the NJ area Ill buy ya a beer

Nice Matt, nice..... I like that setup too. I looked at your suggestions, and I decided to tweak a few things. When I'm done, can you simulate some dynos for me? The only thing I want to do is try and do a 6-pack. What would be the safest,a nd best CFM on the carbs to use? The intake, I have no idea?

I can if I have complete data to work with to simulate the info.

6-Pack, Cool, but can be a pain to tune and to make work on certain engines.  As far as CFM your limited to what is currently available.  I believe the Center was 350 CFM and the outers were 466 cfm. Thats a large total CFM, but what made it driveable is the fact that most of the time you were driving around on the center carb.  The outers were Vacuum Secondary Operated and would only come in when the venturii velocity was enough to start them opening.

At one time about 7 or 8 years back, Holley had an all mechanical 6 pack set up available for the drag racers.  Cool setup, but had to be one stout engine for a street setup.

CFM if dependant on the engine and intended use.  While there is a readily used formula and it works for most people when they are first learning there is some other factors that should be considered and those are learned from years of experience.

three dueces looks cool..  but ive never seen a multi carb setup that wasnt outperformed by a single carb of the same CFM

remember folks..  the mighty L-88/ZL-1 used a single 4BBL
