I just read another post, where you stated" trickle water into the carb". Can you explain this to me. What does it do, why do you do it, how much water?

yeah, this is a redneck trick

you take 16 oz soft drink bottle and rinse it out really good..

then you fill it with water..

start your car let it warm up enough to open thermostat

remove your breather and then hold the bottle over the carb with your thumb over the hole with one hand and use the other hand to rev up the car..

youll ned to rev the car up to around 2000 rpm and start trickling water into the carb..

if the car sounds like its about to die.. just stop trickling and let it catch up, if it dies.. start it up and wait 15 seconds before doing this again..

this also works with non-carb cars but it is much easier on a carb..

what this does is turn the water to steam in the engine. effectively steam cleaning the engine while its running.. you generally do this with someone watching your exhaust.. as long as it blows black.. keep adding water, when it no longer blows black it has broken loose all of the carbon it can get..

its a good tune up procedure and it is good for cars that have hibernation sickness..

youll be amazed at how much carbon this breaks loose.. therefore do not have anything behind your car that you dont want covered in soot..

As long as you don't dump too much in at once, it's perfectly safe. It will also clean out a cat converter. It cleans off valves and cylinders.

never heard of that one.. I know marvel oil has cleaning properites and may break loose some carbon on its own... but I doubt it has the power of steam.. the rapid expansion of the water makes a difference.

I have used the steam cleaning technique on every car ive ever owned and every car ive worked on for someone else..

from a 78 volare station wagon with a straight 6 to my 750hp 429SCJ I used to race in my galaxie back in the day

in fact you can do the same thing with fuel injection you just have to put it in a spray bottle and squirt it into the air intake at some point past the air filter..

the hardest time I ever had using this on a car was an old audi 5000S turbo.. just from a logitical standpoint

The Marvel Mystery Oil does work, but not as well. It's good to put some in the fuel tank to start to soften the carbon, then use the water. Automatic transmission fluid will do the same.

If you have a Catalytic Converter, DONT use any OIL of any kind down the intake or in the tank. The oil will damage the cat.

I forgot all about the auto trans fluid trick...

I dont use it much on cars.. mostly on my lawnmower and auger and other gas tools.. but it does work
