holley vs elderbrook

Vette(s): 1975 convertible,with the hard top and power streering.it a 350 L48 with auto trans. the color is light blue.
 With all the extras that go with the EGR valve gone from my car,I think a aftermarket manifold would look better. In my last post (EGR-NoEGR) someone brought up the elderbrock 2101 nonEGR manifold. What I would like to know is what is better a holley carb or elderbrock carb?  Witch one will fit under the hood  and if I want to use it work with the stock air cleaner. I think by puttin on a manifold and carb on top of the engine it will look cleaner and better.

I think many if not most here will say the Q-Jet is the best all round carburetor for your car...at least for street use and not for a strip dedicated car. 

That being said, if you want a new carburetor, you've just opened up a real can of worms asking for recommendations and opinions.  Personally...and just my personal opinion, I prefer Edelbrock carburetors to Holley for a street driven car.  I think they're simple, hold their adjustments, and may be somewhat better on fuel economy (but we're talking Corvettes here!).  In most cases, I would buy a Demon carb before a Holley, but again, just my personal opinion.

If you buy an Edelbrock carburetor, I would get an Edelbrock Performer EPS intake rather than the Performer 2101.  It's made specifically for the Edelbrock square-bore carbs and has somewhat better horsepower and torque numbers than the 2101, though not by a lot.

Ultimately, it's not simply what parts you buy and install, it's making a plan and obtaining parts matched to one another for best performance.  That means having the intake, carb, camshaft specs, etc., all working in harmony instaed of against one another.

 I have had both and I prefer the Holley,, The edelbrock is great when you can keep it adjusted,,just a PITA,, my opinion,,rd

I don't know much about this area but my giant Edelbrock carb sucks the gas, although it makes ya go fast.WinkI would think if you go with an Edelbrock manifold you would be smart to match it up with an Edelbrock carb and follow any info that Edelbrock could offer you for compatibility.Big%20smile

Gunslinger is right. Everyone has a opinion on intakes and carbs. I have the Edelbrock Performer intake. I put my Holley on it and she ran great. Then I got it in my head to have my Quad rebuilt and put in on. I just couldn't seem to dial it in like my Holley, so I switched back. Now that ain't sayin Holley is better than the rest. My opinion is, get the one you choose dialed in and I just seem to be better at the Holley. The intake is a square bore, and the carb is spread bore, but you can adapt them with no problem.  I want to thank everyone for their opinions. I agree with gunlinger my car came with a Q-jet so to keep it rigth,that is what I'll put back on. I am still in the learning stages with all this corvette stuff.Wink

There are many quality rebuilder who can make your Q-jet as good as new.  I use The Carburetor Shop in St. Paul, MN.  Their phone number is 651-770-3505.  Tell them Corvette Specialties sent you and they will take even better care of you.

If you decide to replace the Q-jet, I agree with Gunslinger's recommendation of a Demon over a Holley or Edelbrock.

My opinion..... Don't waste your dough on a Holley, Edelbrock or a Demon if you have a good Q-Jet and you are not going racing frequently. Those little primaries do a killer job of atomizing the mixture for economical cruising and when those big ole secondaries open up you have about all the fuel mix a small block can handle.

I had my Q-Jet rebuilt at The Quad Shop in Rockford, IL and my throttle response is as good as or better than fuel injection.

My 2 cents....

 Again thanks,I ordered a carb from corvette central.I get to keep my old carb so I think I'll check out the quad shop,and have the old one rebuilt.That way I'll have a spare.Smile
