For anyone considering the swap, I recommend checking and adjusting the floats on the Edelbrock carb. I went through (3) of them to finally realize the floats were out of adjustment and causing severe flooding.
I would have done the Q Jet rebuild, but I cut the L81 motor loose for the GM crate and could not get a standard set up without the L81 CCC stuff on it.
The car runs terriffic now and I also have a Holley set up on another vehicle which has run great for approximately 3 yrs now.

Let us know how you make out. Q-jets are good carbs if they are setup right. If fact that can be said for all carbs. I bought the Holley I have because I was working on a friends 440 Cuda and they looked so good I had to have one. It's just bling. The Q-jet worked just as good.

I have to confess Rick I brought up the Edelbrock intake in your previous post.
I went with the 3701 intake which is the EGR model. I am going to run it both ways and see what works the best. If I don't like the EGR I can remove it and simple place the cover plate over it and run it as though it were a 2101.
I also am going to use the Q-jet carb. It ran great before and I don't expect there to be that much of a change between the two intakes.
All good points the guys have made here! It's really just a matter of preference and possibly what you know how to work on.
Brian brought back some fun busted knuckle memories for me with the 440 Cuda flashback. Mine was a 383 but lotsa time under over around and through that rattle monster.....
Good Luck with your decision!Tuxblacray 2008-02-13 16:47:29

I had a Holley on a Street Built 350 in a Camero, it loaded up, leaked fuel, and didn't run for s#%t. Replaced it with an Edelbrock, had good throttle response, no fuel leaks (only one gasket, not a dozen to leak).
I like the Qjet better. Use a brass float and it will run with the best of them. The original float may absorb fuel making it heavy, then making an over rich mixture.
If you can do without the EGR, do so.

Holleys are bad about blowing power valves with a pop-back thru the carb. They are cheap at about $9 a piece, but a PITA . I have had a few occasions when I pull one apart for a good cleaning and have these little steel balls left over that fell out of nowhere..... more leaks, black smoke and fouled plugs.....

Took it out today and it ran really good.I still think that I should have it checked out to make sure the carb is set right and evereything else also. I want to thank everyone for their opinons,it gave me a lot to think about. In the end, even though my car is almost there(missing emissions) it a number matching car. I think I'll keep it as close to factory as I can.I got alot of work to do ,but it going to be fun.
AGAIN THANKS EVERYBODY

I have a Holley, 4160, I think, single pump, on a Ski Nautique boat With a 351 Ford and always carry a spare power valve. I can replace one in under 5 minutes, that's how good I got at it.
Put that silver bomb on a boat and come on over to Hot Springs, Ark., USA. It's gonna be another bloodletting..... Run that through your translator!!!
Always good to hear from my old buddy Barry....
