Vette(s): 1979 black with light tan interior. Purchased on EBAY out of Fort Myers Beach,FL. in Jan. 2003. Good driver--some mechanical problems.
I have a 79 vette with a one year old stock 350 crate motor in it. I have been told that the horsepower rating on that motor is 220. I have added 2.5inch shortie headers, a 14inch air cover with a K&N air filter, Bosch Platinum plugs, true dual exhaust with an H-pipe, and two 12inch electric fans on the radiator and removed the machanical fan. I was just wondering what kind of horsepower increase I would be looking at with the adding of these few small items?? I also was wondering if there were any other inexpensive things to do to my vette to increase the horsepower and torque?? Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

Vette(s): 1976 Stingray, L48 auto Buckskin/Buckskin Leather originally. Numbers matching.
A guesstimate would be 20-40 based on advertised gains.
Crate motors are rated at the flywheel, so you could be looking at the 240-260hp range at the flywheel. Rear wheel I believe is about 20% less, so you could be looking at between 190-210hp there.
The best thing to do if you can, and are interested is to put it on a dyno.
You have a good jump on the low buck hp gains.
Dual plane aluminum intakes start around $125 and go up.
Edelbrock Performer carbs start around $200.
Road Demon carbs $300-$400 range.
Cam and Lifters around $140
1.6 ratio rocker arms will add more valve lift without changing cams, under $100.
Vortec heads drilled and tapped for 1985 and earlier intakes, in the $400 range complete.
Popular Hotroding did a story on pushing a "Goodwrench 350" to over 400hp/400lbs torque, showing you what worked what didn't, and how much was gained with each mod.

I bought my '79 with the crate motor already installed. GM advertises 249 horse. Here's the link that was mentioned up towards the top,,, http://www.73-87.com/chp/gm350.htm
Here's a couple things that peak my interest,,, http://greenwoodchevy.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GCGPPEDH&Category_Code=GMPP
Here's the engine in mine now,,, http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm?singlepart=1&partnumber=10067353

"The first test was to cork the 350 with a stock aluminum intake manifold, a Q-jet carburetor, and cast-iron exhaust manifolds connected to a pair of Hooker 2-1/4-inch turbo-style mufflers. As you can see from the Test 1 results, the engine performed much better than GM's stock 190 hp rating, making 239 hp at 4,300 with peak torque coming in at 3,700 rpm with 324 lb-ft."
This is what I meant about the "GW 350" being "rated" different depending on where you are looking. GM says 190hp, High Performance Chevy dyno'd one at 239hp, and right now I am looking at a Scroggin-Dickey parts ad that says 250hp.
Baca, thanks for posting the link to that story, that is the story I mentioned above, my "snafu" in stating Popular Hotrodding.
The dyno answers all questions about hp.
