I have a small block with an HV suffix code. I looked it up and found it is a 1965 327 Corvette engine. The crank is a 350. The weird part is the crank doesn't have a hole for the balancer bolt.
Can I trust pressing the balancer on and not worry about it coming off?

If you have the correct balancer for the pressed on type crank, it will be fine...unless this is going in that monster 'Bird...then, I wouldn't take the chance. I'd have the crank machined to accept a bolt.
There were many years of small blocks with no bolt up there. I've seen ONE that came off...that was due to not having the correct balancer to start with.
Whatever you do, don't let anyone convince you to weld it on...that don't werk either...

Ok thanks,,, One more thing about this engine. I have a pshyco mechanic that keeps ranting and ravng about the engine being a Duntove engine, (block). Oh it's priceless,,, it's priceless,,, I did some searching and found he (Duntov) was just a cam designer. I think someone has tainted his brain and caused him to believe in some unknown Engine God. Have you guy's ever heard of some priceless engines?
At one time in some past life he (my mechanic) was a core buyer and seller which has made him believe this.

Ok...now you've gone TOO far!

Duntov...just a cam designer?!?!?!? How dare you!
Zora Duntov was the Chief Engineer for Corvette from 55 to 74. If there is an engine in it, he designed/upgraded it. Yes, he is credited for designing the original "fuelie" cam, but he was MUCH more than that. He also designed the hemi head for the Ferd flathead engine(Ardun Heads), the suspensions on countless cars, including Porche, and many many more things mechanical.
He was instrumental in finishing the development work on the GM fuel injection for the 57 cars(Pontiac included). Duntov is one of the most respected automotive engineers ever, as well a the man that single handedly saved the Corvette from extinction in 55. Anything the Chevy did to/with the Corvette, Duntov had a hand in it. From there, it all trickled down to the other GM brands, or it was developed simultaneously.

Your engine code is for a 65 Corvette, 350 hp 327, standard trans, with transistor ignition.

Good day, sir.

I believe late 50's Caddy engines also have the Duntov touch.

Thanks guy's I appreciate the clarity. I got very lucky on this engine,,,, stock bore and standard bearings!!!. I will need to bore it and turn the crank though. Going to go 10:1 forged pistons and a high 190's cam. Hey, gotta get to work,,, thanks again.
