Not sure if this thread belongs here or in electrical, so I flipped a coin.

I have an '82 and wanted to know if anyone has tried the Power Chip and if it improved engine performance.

Anyone?

I have not tried one in a C3, but my guess is it will help somewhat.  They usually do some good.   Just be sure to keep the old one handy if you need to go through an emission check.  Performance chips are not emission friendly.

I have the Hypertech PC in my '85, but it was in it when I bought the car years ago. It runs fine, and will pass emiss. dyno test here. I have run the Hyper chips in other vehicles, with good results. It will mostly effect the timing, and the injectors on your '82. I think you will feel a difference. I agree with Ken about keeping the orig. prom/chip handy. You never know when you might need to reinstall it!

Hey Dave,

 You looking for more power to keep up with me on the caravan to PF?

Just kidding man. Go ahead and try it out. Next year your car will be exempt from emission insp. anyways. I'll be sporting a "Safety" only NYS Insp. sticker.

Sometime in the future you could swap out those 2.72 gears for a set of 3.08's to give you a little more seat of the pants "takeoff" feeling. You have an overdrive trans., so gas mileage shouldn't really take a hit.

The main reason I got is because it is supposed to smooth out the lugging when driving in the city in OD.
Hopefully, I will be able to put it in OD and leave it there instead of tryiny to remember to downshift into third whenever I am doing less than 40.

I have no desire to change the rear end or add more HP.
I got this Vette to have fun driving and that's what it has been. Next year I will get new exhaust with a better sound.

Dave, does the info you have on this "chip" state that it will raise the speed that the torque converter goes into lock-up? It sounds like that is what is happening. If the tc locks up before 45-50mph, it can create a "bog", or sluggish feeling in the vehicle. If you have already bought the prom(chip), and it doesn't address this particular issue, there are other ways to raise the lock-up speed, and eliminate this problem.

Joel,
On the box it says:
* Improved Performance
* More Horsepower And Torque For Any Kind Of Driving
* 50-State Emissions-Legal

In the installation instructions, it states that I will now have to burn 93 Octane premium gas. (I was doing that most of the time anyway, because even though it should run on 87 octane, it pings under load)

No other info came with the "chip".
I haven't installed it yet. Waiting for spring.
Dave

I'd be willin to bet that it's just gonna change the injector "on" time, and do some changes with the timing. It might also change the temp that the fan comes on.
If it doesn't solve the lugging problem, I can tell you how to raise the lock-up speed to a higher range. That will eliminate the problem. You can just raise the lock-up speed to 50mph, or higher, and it will quit acting like a 4cyl. when it shifts into O/D!!!

That would be great. I'll let you know what happens when I get it in. Probably April or May.
