Topic: Hyper Tech Power Chip
in Forum: C3 Engines
I have an '82 and wanted to know if anyone has tried the Power Chip and if it improved engine performance.
Anyone?

Hey Dave,
You looking for more power to keep up with me on the caravan to PF?
Just kidding man. Go ahead and try it out. Next year your car will be exempt from emission insp. anyways. I'll be sporting a "Safety" only NYS Insp. sticker.
Sometime in the future you could swap out those 2.72 gears for a set of 3.08's to give you a little more seat of the pants "takeoff" feeling. You have an overdrive trans., so gas mileage shouldn't really take a hit.

Hopefully, I will be able to put it in OD and leave it there instead of tryiny to remember to downshift into third whenever I am doing less than 40.
I have no desire to change the rear end or add more HP.
I got this Vette to have fun driving and that's what it has been. Next year I will get new exhaust with a better sound.

On the box it says:
* Improved Performance
* More Horsepower And Torque For Any Kind Of Driving
* 50-State Emissions-Legal
In the installation instructions, it states that I will now have to burn 93 Octane premium gas. (I was doing that most of the time anyway, because even though it should run on 87 octane, it pings under load)
No other info came with the "chip".
I haven't installed it yet. Waiting for spring.
Dave

If it doesn't solve the lugging problem, I can tell you how to raise the lock-up speed to a higher range. That will eliminate the problem. You can just raise the lock-up speed to 50mph, or higher, and it will quit acting like a 4cyl. when it shifts into O/D!!!
