Went out one evening last week and wanted to take the "79" out for a drive...and the darn thing turned over but did not give any indication it was even thinking of starting up...  *(&^% !!!!

Happed about 10 years ago and was cured by replacing the ignition module...so I drove into town and picked up one the following morning.. and installed it and the car fired right up ideled just fine!

End of Problems.... I wish....

I shut her down and went on with other things I needed to do....BUT came back a few days later for that drive......Car fired right up....backed out of the garage...drove across my back yard out
over the front yard (don't ask...lol..may cars are in garages in the back and Planning and Zoning will not allow me to pave a driveway)..

Anyway when I got to the road eveny thing seemed normal
I pulled out and the car absolutely ran like crap...missing very badly
would not take any gas...and was hard to just keep running...not alone drive...

That was 3-4 days ago and I still have not had any time (retirement is nice but I had more free time when I worked) ... not anything difficult
replacing the module.. and the roter can only go on one way ...so WHAT DID I DO ???

going to pull it apart and check...just wondering if a bad module, or the replacement could have screwed up the coil...

Thanks.
Bob G.

PS...car ran just fantastic (as always) when I parked it a few weeks ago...

Boy, that sucks!
You may have gotten a bad mod., or it could be the wires from the mod. to the pole-piece are damaged. They seem to get either really mushy, or hard as a rock. Since you have to remove these from the mod. to replace it, check them out, and see if there is any visable damage there.
There's another thread here on the same problem, from just a couple of weeks ago, and Ken gives a good explanation of how to check the mod. and the coil. I'll see if I can locate it, and put a link here for it.

Vette(s): Silver '81 mostly original C3. Silver interior, bilstiens, big sway bars, headers.
I discovered on my '81 that if the choke butterfly doesn't open this gives all the symptoms you describe. For the sake of pulling the air cleaner off may be worth checking ! If your '79 choke is the same as the '81 then you should see the following:
- jump in cold car, one push on gas pedal trips choke butterfly into fully closed position;
- when car starts a vacuum "pull off" should crack choke butterfly open to give about a 1/8" gap or thereabouts at edge of butterfly;
- electric choke coil should continue opening up choke butterfly as engine warms up.

Probably completely unrelated to your problem, but hey you just never know !

Cheers.
