Vette(s): 1981 Charcoal Met., Silver Interior, Gymkhana Suspension, 27K original miles. It's my daily driver.
Started looking around under the air cleaner and cleaning up after the leaves fell this fall and noticed on my 81 it looks as though it has an aluminum manifold on it. Either that or it's just painted silver. Did any or all come with aluminum intakes or painted silver? I know my other 81 didn't look like this one. car has 27K original miles. Thanks, Tom

It should be 'luminuminum. They used the L82 intake on all Corvette engines for '80-'81.

Well...sorta. It's basically the same, with some minor calibration changes...cam, intake, exhaust, etc. It also has the ECM controlling the timing and idle fuel mixture. The actual engine hardware is pretty much the same as an L48, but there's enough difference to warrant the nomenclature change.

My 80 came with the origanal California 305 and it had a steel intake. Oviously at 180 HP it all had to go.

The L81 has an aluminum manifold, painted silver from the factory (
looks terrible).
