I'm about to change out my intake bolts (one at a time so as not to disturb gasket), since the old ones are butt-ugly and I have nice ARP bolts. My question is the DS seems to have 8 bolts, while the PS only shows 6. I guess the 2 extras on the DS mus be head bolts?? Why not 8 on PS also? The "extra" bolts on the DS are in the center and pointed straight down, while all other 6 are at an angle. I would appreciate help; I don't want to disturb the wrong bolts.

Also, is there much of a risk I could develop a leak by my method of chaning out intake bolts one at a time? Should I leave ugly bolts well-enough alone, or is it pretty safe to change them without issues? Thanks!

Taking the bolts out and replacing them one at a time will not cause any problems. Go ahead.

But after 30 years of fixing cars and teaching car repair you have to tell me what the heck you mean by DS and PS??

DS and PS must mean driver side and passenger side. They both should have the same number so I'm not sure what you are looking at. Make sure you clean the holes and apply thread sealer to the new bolts when you install them or they will leak. Cast Iron manifolds should be 35ft/lbs torque and an aluminum manifold should be 25 ft/lbs torque. Re-torque the bolts after you have brought the motor up to operating temps at least 2 times, 3 if it has an aluminum manifold.

Yeah, DS=driver's side/ PS=passenger's side. Sorry. I use it all the time in notes to myself and didn't even realize I'd abbreviated that in my post. So the DS seems to have two extra bolts...?? Weird.

Brian, thanks for the info on re-torquing later after the car is run for a while. I did not realize that was needed.

Both sides have the same number of bolts holding down the intake manifold. The two extra on the driver side would be for something else. Generally a bracket that attatches to the manifold.
Many gaskets do need to be retorqued. Some do not require this step. With new bolts it's always a good idea. It may only help.
